419 Presto is a well-stocked road bike and MTB shop in Kizugawa-shi, Kyoto prefecture, between Kyoto and Nara. It has been owned and run by Ishio-san, a very fit and experienced racing cyclist and skilled mechanic, for over 3 decades, so you can be sure of an excellent service for all your training, racing and commuting needs - and a friendly welcome. Why not call in, or give him a call, he is able to speak a little English. He can order anything you need that isn't already in stock.
419 Presto Cycling Club
Ishio-san leads group training rides on most Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. The format is a group line-out, usually with Ishio-san doing most of the work on the front (!), with the emphasis on training rather than looking at stuff, and a short break at a Combini. If anyone gets dropped on climbs the group waits at the top, so no-one gets left behind.
- Saturdays: 8am start (8.30 in winter), around 3 hours, medium pace (approx 30km/hour on the flat), mixed roads usually with one bigger climb. Suitable for beginners with general fitness (it helps if you can 'hold a wheel'), and the more experienced.
- Sundays: 8am start (8.30 in winter), 4 hours or more, usually around 100km but can be up to 250km. Usually a faster pace than Saturdays (approx 38km/hr on the flat), usually mixed undulating roads with climbs
